At Wilderness Trails we enjoy a fantastic variety of angling options: rivers, lake, ponds, streams, guided, or non-guided.

On the Ranch

We have multiple ponds on the ranch stocked with Rainbow Trout. Fishing rods, lures, and bait are available for your use. Fishing on the ranch does not require a license.  Fly-fishing casting clinics are also offered each week with our in-house gude.

Fly-fishing Guides and Information

Guided fly-fishing and lessons can be arranged on the Gold Medal Waters of the San Juan, Animas, or Vallecito Rivers with our guide, Gordy Herrick. Gordy offers half and all-day fully guided fishing excursions.  Trips can be booked after arriving at the ranch or pre-booked by contacting the office. 

Technical stream fishing can be accessed on the ranch or on the National Forest bordering the ranch.  Each week, we also offer an all day fishing ride up the Pine River in the Weminuche Wilderness Area. A license is required for any fishing done off the ranch.

Vallecito Lake

Our pontoon boat provides a roomy and relaxing platform to fish nearby Vallecito, or fish from the lake's vast shoreline. Enjoy a gorgeous outing, fishing for record Kokanee Salmon, Rainbow Trout, Small Mouth Bass, German Brown Trout, Northern Pike, and Walleye. A license is required to fish on Vallecito.
