WTR offers a fantastic variety of angling options: rivers, lake, ponds, streams, guided, or non-guided.

On the Ranch

We have multiple ponds on the ranch stocked with Rainbow Trout. Fishing rods, lures, and bait are available for your use. Fishing on the ranch does not require a license.  Fly-fishing casting clinics are also offered each week with our one of our in-house guides.

Vallecito Lake

Our pontoon boat provides a roomy and relaxing platform to fish nearby Vallecito, or fish from the lake's vast shoreline. Enjoy a gorgeous outing, fishing for record Kokanee Salmon, Rainbow Trout, Small Mouth Bass, German Brown Trout, Northern Pike, and Walleye. A license is required to fish on Vallecito.

Experience fishing in SW Colorado while riding in the wilderness with our "Ride to Fish" or take a pontoon boat out on Vallecito Lake!

Fly-fishing Guides and Information

Guided fly-fishing and lessons can be arranged on the Gold Medal Waters of the San Juan, Animas, or Vallecito Rivers with one of our guides.

We offer half and all-day fully guided fishing excursions.  

Technical stream fishing can be accessed on the ranch or on the National Forest bordering the ranch.  Each week, we also offer an all day fishing ride up the Pine River in the Weminuche Wilderness Area. A license is required for any fishing done off the ranch.  We will help you obtain appropriate licenses.

 

Ryan McRorie
The Best Darn Angler in SW Colorado

Orvis Pro Guide, Ryan McRorie, is again joining us at WTR.  He is one of those guys that make you smile when he walks in the door!  Ryan is an excellent teacher for those new to fly fishing as well as those seasoned anglers that what to know where the best fishin' holes are in SW Colorado and along our Gold Medal waters.

We have several fishing options for you to choose from (rivers, streams and lakes) whether you are a beginner or a seasoned angler.  Guided trips can be arranged through the office or directly with our Orvis Pro Guide, Ryan McRorie.  All equipment, instruction, and lunches are provided.

Casting Clinic

New to fly-fishing? Don’t worry, our guide will teach you all the basics you need to be successful in the sport (casting, presentation and landing/release) in a 1 hour class at the pond.  $40 per person

San Juan River

The San Juan is an internationally known “Gold Medal” rated river; some stretches of the Juan hold 10,000 fish per mile!  This is a technical river with plenty to offer. Full day wade or float trip: $300 one person or $350 for 2 people

Ride-2-Fish

Experience the high-country at its finest; go for a full day ride up the Pine River then fish for wild brown and rainbow trout! $400 one person or $450 for 2 people

Animas River 

The Animas River flows through Durango and is also Gold Medal rated.  Huge caddis hatches offer dry-fly fishing for the purists.  Full day wade trip: $275 one person or $350 for 2 people or half-day wade trip: $250 one person or $300 for 2 people

Vallecito Creek and/or Florida River

Vallecito Creek is an incredibly scenic smaller river just a short drive from the ranch.  Its western neighbor the Florida is just as beautiful and both are very productive.  Full day: $200 one person or $250 for 2 people or half day (4 hours): $150 one person or $200 for 2 people
