Our secluded ranch borders the magnificent Piedra and Weminuche Wilderness Areas, which host an abundance of wildlife, crystal clear streams, open meadows, high mountain vistas, and vast mountain forests covering thousands of acres. Boasting the nickname "The Switzerland of America," this is truly one of the most beautiful areas in Colorado.

Directions: Take Highway 160 to Bayfield Colorado and turn north onto Country Road 501 (only stop light on Hwy 160). Continue on County road 501 towards Vallecito lake.  Go around the west end of the lake, then the north end and start back down the east end, all the while staying on County Road 501.  (Do not go on County Road 501-A or across the Vallecito Lake Dam), this road is rough and not recommended. 

Tip: While staying on County Road 501 around the west end, north end and east side of the lake you will go 4.5 miles on dirt road after leaving the pavement until you come to the Wilderness Trails Ranch gate, clearly marked.  

Note: Bayfield is 18 miles east of Durango and 30 miles west of Pagosa Springs. 

Wilderness Trails Ranch is basically 35 miles northeast of Durango in the incredibly beautiful San Juan Mountains of southwestern Colorado.

The ranch is easily accessed from our local Durango-La Plata Airport (DRO)--serviced by United, US Airways, and Frontier airlines. Let us know your flight plans, and we'll meet you at the airport!

Many guests enjoy seeing more of the surrounding area and choose to fly into Albuquerque, NM or Denver, CO, and rent a car. We are a 4 hour drive from Albuquerque, and a 7 hour drive from Denver. The countryside between either of these cities is packed with national parks, historic areas, and incredible sight-seeing.
